In Germany, organs may only be removed with the express consent of the donor. You can declare your willingness to donate with an informal letter or an entry in your living will. Another option is an organ donor card, which fits in your wallet and quickly provides clarity in an emergency as to whether you are an organ donor. Since mid-March 2024, it has also been possible to register in a digital organ donation register. There is no point in recording your willingness to donate in your will – too much time usually passes before it is opened and organ donation is then no longer possible.
